Has it really been a year?

WOW! I thought having a blog would be such a great way to keep everyone posted on the activities of the Wallis family. That's a great idea.....if you actually post something! Well, it's time to catch up because, believe me, we have A LOT going on!

What a year it has been! After the first of the year, Mike's work has taken off and he has been so busy - I mean REALLY busy! What a blessing it has been when so many people are suffering because of the bad economy, God has really provided for us. I guess God knew what was coming down the road and that we would need extra provisions this year!

Our adoption began to weigh heaving on my heart and mind early on this year. When we were still in the "paperchasing" phase in 2007, we fill out an application with our adoption agency to be considered for adopting a special needs child. However, since the time we did that, the agency revamped their "Waiting Child" program (aka special needs) and our application became null and void. I had not given it much thought until this year when God so obviously began tugging at my heart to begin moving forward with the Waiting Child program. So I sent an email to our family coordinator at the agency and requested to fill out another application for the WC program. Little did I know that our adoption was suddenly going "full steam ahead"!

So, on April 26, Mike and I sat down together to fill out our WC application. Let me tell you, that is not an easy thing to do. Part of the application is a long list of "special needs" that we had to mark with 1 of 3 options: 1) that we would definitely take a child with that condition, 2) that we would consider taking a child with that condition, or 3)that we would not take a child with that condition. That was really hard to think of all the children with each condition and decide if we wanted to pursue that particular special need or not. We felt that we were fairly generous with what we would take, but still heartbreaking to think of any child that no one might want.

Well, about 2 weeks after we summitted our application, we received a call on May 7, from our FC to tell us that we were accepted into the program. And the most shocking part was that we would probably receive a referral within 1-3 months! We were very surprised that it could happen that fast! So you can imagine our surprise when we received a call 2 weeks later on May 21 at 11pm from our FC telling us of a child that was available if we wanted to pursue it! Needless to say, we didn't get a lot of sleep that night. Our FC was emailing her profile to us immediately! It finally came at 1am!

Her name is Hua AoKa and she is 14 months old. She was born on March 29, 2009, with spina bifida and had had surgery immediately after birth. She was found on public bus No. 54 in Guiyang City on April 9, 2009. According to her medical records, she has had no trouble developing, however, she is considered very small for her age.

After spending the weekend reviewing her profile, we decided that we definitely wanted to move forward with adopting her. What an exciting time! Our heads were spinning at how quickly things have suddenly turned around!

Vacation 2009

I thought I would recap our vacation for those of you who care. Mike and I celebrated our 10th anniversary on May 8 by taking a Disney cruise and then staying in Orlando for a few days. I had told Mike for the last many years that on our 10th anniversary that we needed a big celebration. Since we were going to Disney we decided to take the boys! We had the greatest vacation EVER!

The cruise was perfect. They took care of every need we had and the food was the best I've ever eaten! We enjoyed a day in the Bahamas and one day at Disney's island, Castaway Cay. Connor managed to get sick but fortunately it was only a quick stomach bug that didn't hold him down for very long. Cameron had a great time going to his "club" on board the ship where they were constantly doing activities with the kids. We had a hilarious reminder of what a family-friendly ship it was when the clean-up crew had to empty the Mickey Mouse pool twice - one kid pooped in the pool and later in the day another kid threw-up in the pool. We gladly kept our distance from the Mickey Mouse pool after that!

After we got back to Florida, we stayed at Disney's Saratoga Springs Resort. As with all things Disney, it was also top-notch and incredibly beautiful! We enjoyed a day going to Epcot and ended the day at Magic Kingdom! There is so much to do in Orlando. but we managed to take things easy and have a great time!

Summer fun

Well, summer has started and is busier than ever! I had a great plan to take things easy this summer before my baby starts kindergarden, however, that's NOT happening! The boys have swim lessons three days a week (Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday) and Cameron takes guitar on Tuesdays. This week Cameron is attending a three day baseball camp from 9am-3pm (thank goodness it's only three days). Next week is Connor's 5th birthday and is Cameron's first swim meet. And to top it all of, throw in another child for the next several months! Joey has come to live with us for a while. We have known him for a few years through church. He is a few months older than Cameron and so far is adjusting well to our busy lives. Well, things will be interesting as we progress into summer. Maybe things will slow down after a while and we can enjoy our summer.....then again, maybe not!

Welcome

I have been considering the idea of starting a blog for quite a while so I finally took the leap and am giving it a shot! This blog will be about the adventures (and probably misadventure's!) of our family. With two active boys and family located all over the United States, what better way to keep everyone up-to-date on all of our activities. I hope that you will enjoy keeping up with our family and our lives.

About Me

My photo
I have been married to Michael for 11 years. We have two beautiful boys, Cameron, 9, and Connor, 6. We stay very busy with our children's activities. I have homeschooled Cameron since his first year, and Connor will start 1st grade in the fall 2010. Cameron is busy with piano lessons, is a cub scout, and is involved with many activities at church. Connor is beginning Cub Scouts this fall and takes piano lessons as well. He also participates in church activities, takes swim lessons, and wants very much to do whatever his big brother does. The boys enjoy piano very much thanks to their great piano teacher - GRANDMA! Michael is self-employed and stays very busy providing for his family! And I stay busy trying to keep everything and everyone in line and on time!
